The fashion industry dip the flag for Bendt Bendtsen

By Didder Rønlund

The Danish fashion industry dipped the flag for Minister of Economic and
Business Affairs Bendt Bendtsen during Copenhagen Fashion Week, Spring Summer 2009.

The entire industry cheered his new initiative and the fact that Minister Bendtsen has selected fashion as the first of four Danish experienceeconomy zones to reach the international elite via political backing. The Fashion Zone has a budget of 17 million Danish Kroner over the first 3 years. Amuch needed pat on the back for the industry.

Without being killjoy for the enthusiastic and attractive goal - to make Denmark i.e. Copenhagen the world's fifth fashion capital - the firstfour are located in New York, Paris, Milan and London, so neither potential normillions for the Danish project are just around the corner! And they know it: Both the politicians led by Bendt Bendtsen and fashion industry professionals led by Danish Fashion Institute director, Eva Kruse.

But they have a lot of well-founded optimism. For example, Denmark's fashion
industry has, in comparison to other OECD countries, the largest export share in relation to the total production. And, international recessionor not, wonderful Copenhagen's fashion forums draw a record 55,000 buyers and press bi-annually - and not least with renewed interest from politicians, who sat front row during the latest round of shows.

Minister of Economic and Business Affairs Bendt Bendtsen attented the NOIR
show at City Hall with his daughter. Mayor for Technology and Environment Klaus Bondam and Mayor in Cultural Affairs Pia Allerslev also mingled among the show guests.
Thank you for coming! It is worth its weight in gold to the industry and designers who are now out to fight for elite positions in the global fashion industry.
